Magic improves their spells, willpower lets them cast spells more often. Deathroot Extract/Concentrated Deathroot Extract/Fleshrot - +2/4/6 nature damage, and 10/15/20% chance to stun for 2 seconds. Leave them and come back to them if they are too much trouble.Go through your skills before you actually get to be able to to unlock them. Yeah, I'm wildly assuming you're perhaps too young to have played the classic rpg style, so here's my tips: DA:O plays the old school way, which means it's all about strategy and planning. STR is, atypically, also a mitigation stat, because armor upgrades require higher strength to wear, and the strength required ramps up quickly (DA: O isn't very well balanced, but that's part of it's throwback charm). Dual Weapon Expert increases the damage multiplier of second hit (while first hit stuns) to x2. I wasn't using a 'tank' character, that could be my problem. Quiet Death - +3 nature damage, and 15% chance on each hit to stun creatures for 2 seconds. If you have the special edition or any DLC, this is where you pick it up. It sucks.-Learn only single target nukes, crowd control is a way more efficient use of your mana than trying to skirt friendly fire. I recommend giving the tank guide a good read, since a well made tank can make or break a party - and Alistair is basically pre-made to be a tank.
They have some sexy looking aoe, but its more likely to hurt you than help. Aim - Removed the extra 5 attack bonus introduced by CT long ago. Having both mods (CT and +Healing) installed will create no problem, but It's safe to remove the other one if you wish. Now icon will only appear briefly and be removed on projectile impact. The other two spots can pretty much be anything as long as it can dish out damage, but a little utility gives you many tactical options. CT SP Module Fixes is updated with new Combat Tactics change.
Also, get Combat Tweaks: many of the more lackluster skills and makes every fighting style worth it. Give the tank your heaviest armour, make sure they've got lots of health, and send them into the fight first. Cone of Cold - Fixed a vanilla bug causing enemies to never resist the frozen effect, and reduced chance to freeze by 20%. There's no point in trying to manually dodge melee attacks, and there's no shame in turning down the difficulty (I had to go down to the lowest difficulty for some of the blood mage encounters in Dragon Age: Origins).
